The Syrian government army Sunday claimed to be in full control of the Damascus-Jordanian highway and the Nassib border crossing for the first time in the seven-year civil war. Army checkpoints have been placed along the highway.  DEBKAfile: This means that Syria can restore the passage of goods to Jordan, and Syrian ports can go back to receiving cargoes bound for the kingdom, thereby giving the kingdom’s flagging economy a major boost. Traffic through Nassib would net Jordan additional revenue of half a billion dollars a year.
