Israel strikes three Syrian army posts in reprisal for drone intrusion

The Israeli air force hit three Syrian army posts in the Quneitra region Wednesday night in response for a Syrian drone’s infiltration of Israeli air space that afternoon. The drone was shot down over the Sea of Galilee 9.6km inside Israel by a Patriot missile. After fragments were recovered, the IDF spokesman said the Syrian drone was unarmed and seemed to be on a reconnaissance mission. The 16-minute delay in the interception was explained by Israel verifying that the drone was not Russian at a time that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was in Moscow for talks with President Vladimir Putin. Following those talks, “an Israeli official” reported the prime minister said: “They (Russia) have an active interest in seeing a stable Assad regime and we in getting the Iranians out. These can clash or can align.”
